About This Event

The 23rd Annual Ricky Byrdsong Race Against Hate is a signature event of the YWCA Evanston/North Shore and its mission which includes racial justice and violence prevention. First Church is happy to again help sponsor this event.

Help our congregation support the Race Against Hate with active participation on June 18! You can run or walk that day or participate in other ways. Getting involved in this event on the day of the race is a great way to support a terrific cause, get a good word about First Church out to the community, and have fun.

Please consider participating in one or more of the following ways. Our goal is to get 50 (??) persons involved that day.

Represent First Church at Long Field before and after the race.
Start time 7am. Greet runners and walkers near the start/finish lines. Hand out bananas and words of encouragement. Answer questions and share information about First Church, Worship in the Park, and other opportunities. (Need three total.)
Volunteer at a Water Station.
Start time estimated 7:30am. Hand out water and encouragement to the runners and walkers as they pass. (Need 10-12 total.)
Cheer runners and walkers on as they pass Lunt Park.
Start time at Lunt Park estimated 7:30am. Bring enthusiasm and signs (if you wish). Noisemakers provided. Participating in the Cheer Zone is perfect for families and anyone with youthful energy! (Need at least 12 persons.)
Happy to volunteer where needed,

Participate in the race (a 10K run OR 5K run/walk OR youth mile)/half mile.
First Church has 3 free registrations for runners or walkers. Check this option and you'll be entered into a drawing at the May 21 First Church Bake Off for the three registrations.
