Vacation Bible School is back and in person!
Join us for four days of summer fun and faith formation as we put compassion in action!
Compassion Camp is a program for children and families to explore what it means to have compassion for others, ourselves, and the world. Children entering kindergarten through 4th Grade are invited to join us in person July 19-22 from 3:00-5:30 p.m. for four late-afternoon sessions, including:
- Gathering and Music
- Bible Stories and skits
- Create and Play Crafts and Activities
- Movement and Loving/Kindness Practice
- Cooperative Games
- Tangible Takeaways for Putting Compassion in Action
As we look around the world, our deep need for compassion becomes more evident with each passing day, perhaps now more than ever. We will examine different places in our lives where we can cultivate compassion. Using each of the Compassion Camp components, we'll explore themes of compassion as they relate to each session's Scripture:
- Day One: "All Around Me," Exodus 2:1-10
- Day Two: "For Myself," 1 Kings 19:4-8
- Day Three: "To the Neighbor," Luke 10:25-37
- Day Four: "With the World," Acts 2:1-3, 42-47
Important Details and Covid-19 Precautions:
Each session will take place at and around First United Methodist Church of Evanston. Covid safety measures will be practiced throughout, including sanitizing, distancing, and as much time outdoors as possible on the church's front lawn or in nearby Lunt Park. In the event of inclement or extreme weather, we will move indoors to a space large enough to accommodate distancing. Masks/face coverings are required, and extra masks will be available. Neither snacks nor meals will be served, though water will be available. Please plan accordingly. (If your child requires a snack in the allotted timeframe, please notify us in the "Additional Information" section below and we will work to accommodate.)
All registrants will receive a Compassion Camp Family Pack with materials for at-home use, designed for those unable to attend in person as well as those interested in expanding on each session at their own pace.
No fee is required to attend! A medical form, attached here, must be completed and can be submitted electronically to [email protected], or printed and returned in person on the first day of camp.
